Who knew mirrors could be so much fun?  

Over the last few days we've had some tiny visitors in the greenhouses.  It's not unusual for our avian friends to fly in through the roof vents but we've never had a bird so intent on staying inside the greenhouse to inspect our mirrors!

Sittin' on the Sedums

With all the beautiful weather this week, Anna Mary & Miriam had the perfect Thursday afternoon to plant up our green roof above the retail greenhouse entrance.  Green roofs are such a great trend right now!  What could be better than beautifying underused space while enjoying so many other benefits- increased insulation, creating habitats for animals, and absorbing rainwater, among others.  

Admittedly, this particular green roof is more for aesthetics than practicality.  We plan to enjoy these sedums (and other perennials!)  for years to come!

3:00 Break

There are many perks of greenhouse work- the excitement of new plants arriving in the spring, exercising our creative muscles by putting together different planter combos, getting a "farmer's tan" by the end of March, and many, many more! However, one of our daily perks is the unofficial "3:00 Break" where we almost stop working long enough to enjoy a drink of water and a snack, compliments to Aunt Cin.  Today's popsicle was especially gratifying for Tom & Lloyd, who spent the afternoon installing the hanging basket watering lines in the newest greenhouse.

The landscape changes pretty quickly around here!  Only a few days ago these hanging baskets in #6 were sitting patiently, waiting to be planted.  This morning Sarah and Angela began to hang them up on their watering lines:

An RSVP is necessary for this morning filled with a series of short, informative and inspiring talks from Marty.  Afterwards, you're welcome to browse and shop until noon.  

Our Annual "Open House" - May 5, 2012 from 8-12:00

While we ARE open for retail before the Open House, this is our official spring kick-off.  All are welcome to spend time with us enjoying coffee, Aunt Cin's homemade breads and, of course, all of the beautiful flowers!

We'll be open for retail beginning the week of April 16.  More specifics on dates and time for our open days will be coming soon!

Here Comes Spring!

We're getting ready for another fun and busy season.  The girls are filling pots and hanging baskets with dirt, Tom is putting the finishing touches on our newest greenhouse and  Wolfie and Beiler, as always, are eager to join in too!  But don't just take my word for it- check it out the progress for yourself:
