Poinsettia Open House 2009

In case you missed it, this morning was our annual Poinsettia Open House... and the first snow of the season! Seeing all the red inside the greenhouse and white on the ground outside got us into the Christmas spirit pretty quick. We managed to snap only a few pictures before the morning slipped away. Thanks to everyone who made the time to come out today- we really enjoy sharing the flowers with all of you!

Thanks for looking!

Saving Light

While the flowers inside it are breathtaking, it's always a treat to see the bizarre shape the greenhouse takes on by night! As the days have been getting shorter and shorter we've been turning on the lights in the greenhouse to finish out the afternoons. Sarah's been working on planting up perennials for the spring, and we're pretty well through placing all of the orders for next season- now we're just "tweaking".
In new and exciting news, we're in the process of adding a front porch to the greenhouse! Look closely and you can see it's shadow. If all goes according to plan it should be finished and beautiful for December retail. (Which is so much sooner than we all think!)

Seeing Pink

Watching the poinsettias turn colors is a treat every year and this year we're especially enjoying a new, fun color pattern! Ice Punch seems to be the star of the season with it's bright bracts. Take a look for yourself:

For those of you on our mailing list, keep your eyes open for our postcards. We'll be mailing them out ASAP!

First things first...

Hi! We're the Henry family- Tom, Marty, Anna Mary, Sarah and Miriam. Blogging, we hope, will be a fun way to allow our friends an extra peek into our greenhouse operation here on the farm.

We're planning to post about once a week, so check in with us soon for some behind-the-scenes poinsettia pictures!
